Oh what a summer!

This has been written for a while and I just forgot to post it. Without further ado - a review of our summer.

It's been quite the summer! We had such a blast this summer

First,
My cousin Ashley came for the summer

And a downside
I got hand foot mouth disease. That aside.....

The kids had a blast playing at some splash pads

And don't forget the slip and slide in the back yard!

Most exciting - we bought a trailer! Every time Dave was home from work we would go camping. It was quite the fun experience

Also, we went camping a few times near a beach so of course we had to hit it up!!!

We also took Ashley to jasper to see the mountains. It was such a fun weekend!

Austin had a blast throwing rocks in the water with his friend Mila

And we got to witness this: big horned sheep eating a truck. The guy jumped out to take a picture of all the sheep, left his door open, and this sheep thought he would check it out and have a snack. I said its a good thing we shut our doors, or we would never get them out of the van with the amount of goldfish crackers in the backseat.

Lets not forget our trip to calgary. I went down to do the color me rad 5k. We brought the whole family with us. I had a blast
This was my heck yeah I finished the race face. It was a little touch and go for a bit.
And probably my most favourite picture ever.

While we were in calgary we went and checked out the zoo. They had pictures of all the flooding they sustained. I had no idea that half the zoo was on an island! Obviously it being only a month after the flooding the part of the zoo on the island was still closed. They were saying it will take up to 5 years and close to 5 million dollars to recover from the flood. So crazy.

Austin loved the penguins! He would have sat there all day watching them.

Also, this picture is of their penguin who had an infection in his foot and it was being rubbed raw. They ordered him special penguin booties to prevent that, but they didn't fit. So, they improvised using beer cozies. You can see one foot cozied in the picture. How cute is that.

Overall the kids had a blast this summer I'm sure, and I even had a pretty good time too.

Happy first day of fall!

This morning Austin had to go to our local farmers markets for an opportunity to harvest the corn. (Through his beavers group) he had fun and got to bring some corn home too.

Afterwards he got an award!

Good job my jr farmer!!! Obviously he wasn't as excited, since we came home without the award when he set it down somewhere and it got left behind. Oops.

Mackenzie was super excited to get a balloon

And obviously loved toddling around while wearing it

Oh, and they got to pet a cow.

Mackenzie was soooo gentle and nice with the cow. No hitting (thank goodness!!!)

I'm pretty sure Austin loved petting the cows too.

What our super cute pictures don't show is how our day ended. With Austin whining he didn't want popcorn, then both of them misbehaving, so I said we were leaving. That was followed by me football carrying a crying Mackenzie out, while Austin followed along crying soooo loud that he wanted popcorn and didn't want to go home. And of course we had to walk through the entire farmers market with them doing this.

Big girl bed already?!?

Yes, already. Same thing as with Austin. We got a great deal on an awesome bed and had to get it for her. Then, I'm impatient and just really want to set it up. Haha.

We had some issues... Our house is small so we had to leave it outside until we were ready to set it up.  I carefully arranged it so if it rained, the bed would still be fine, and none of the cardboard decorations would be ruined. Then, someone moved it to mow the lawn and he left it the wrong way up so water pooled in it. Sigh.

So, I scrubbed it down, took off the decorations and moved it inside.

Finally after getting sick of having to move to watch the tv, I decided screw it. She's getting her bed.

Kind of curious what is going on here

Ooh look soothers!!!! There were quite a few hidden under there!

And finally the bed was set up!!! I had washed her new bedding last week so it was all ready to go.

Bed time seemed great. She laid down, got all comfy.

Then.....

She was excited. She was looking at all the things on the sheet set, she was bouncing, laughing, doing anything but sleep pretty much. Eventually though, she did pass out.

The next day I continually couldn't find Mackenzie. She kept going to her room and climbing into her bed and just play on her bed.  When I put her down for a nap, I'm not entirely sure if she even napped. So of course that night went quicker on bed time.

Fast forward a week, and she's figured out how to get out of the bed. oh yay.  Last night she kept getting up and not wanting to go to bed. I did the same thing we did with Austin. Close his door. She of course got up, went to the door and started crying because she couldn't get it open. And again, I did the same thing we did with Austin. I sat on the other side of the door and told her it was ok and to go climb into bed. It was time for bed. Well, she instead decided to just lay down and sleep on the floor with her blanket. Whatever floats your boat baby. Whatever.

First day of kindergarten!!!

Today was my little boy's first day of school. He was excited, I didn't cry, and I might get some stuff cleaned during nap time if Mackenzie permits it. (Or maybe I'll nap because I tossed and turned all night anxious to make it to school on time)

After we sorted out his supplies he played. I told him I was leaving he said he didn't want me to go. (Sniff sniff) but, I knew I had to leave some time so I told him I would stay until play time was over. Then he gave me 2 hugs and was just fine. And that was our uneventful morning. But hey, onto the pictures!!!

So this was his last day of preschool in June

And today's picture

True bath time stories

Some days I wish I was making these things up.

The other night I threw both kids in the bath. Mackenzie was playing with her water spraying toys, Austin was playing with his hot wheels.  They were having fun. Mackenzie kept drinking the water (insert dry heave here) and Austin kept farting in the water. If course I had to say "stop drinking the water! Your brother farted in it." Sigh.

So, they are content playing with their separate toys. Until Mackenzie finds a new toy.... It's dangling in the water....... Between her brother's legs. She reaches over. I pull her away as she grabs on. Her brother of course is like what the hell?!?!?  I decide this is the best time to stop playtime and start washing and getting out.

Both kids are now out of the bath. Austin is drying himself off.  He looks at me all serious. "Mommy, what is this?" I look over, yeah..... "Well, that's a ball, or well, a testicle. You have 2 of them."  So he tries to find the other one. Of course. Then, he tells me - "look mommy, it looks like lungs." How, at this point how I haven't started laughing like a lunatic, I have no idea. I explain that it may look like a set of lungs, but they do not do the same thing as lungs. He points to his chest, says "here is one set of lungs, and here is the other" pointing to his newly discovered testicles. All I could think was dear god, do not let him bring this up at camp tomorrow. Please. So I tell him again, they are not lungs, then wrap him back up in his towel.

But this story isn't done yet... Towards the end of the testicle discussion, Mackenzie catches sight of that new dangly toy again. So she's right beside him as I'm trying to put his towel on, trying to lift his towel to see it.

At that point I looked at the clock, and said "oh good, bedtime"

Confessions of a stationary-aholic

It's the most wonderful time of the year.....

Back to school time!!!!

Seriously, that commercial just cracks me up so much.

This year, I don't have to think of some really random and stupid excuse to wander the aisles of back to school stuff. This year I have a kid going to school. *tiny little tear*

I mean, last year he was at the preschool at the school he's going to this year. He had a supply list, but it didn't include much fun things.  (it had wipes, kleenex, change of clothes, markers, you know, kind of boring stuff) This year includes notebooks, duotangs, markers, pencil cases, oh my I could go on and on.

Ok, so he really did need the pretty purple composition book. I know that he just needs that for kindergarten. I got him his fancy 1/2 plain 1/2 lined notebooks. But I just know that in a month he's going to need a 4 pack of fully lined notebooks in different colors. OF COURSE HE IS!!!!!  And multicolored pens!?!?!?! YES!!!

But seriously, I have a problem. We definitely bought more supplies then needed. Especially since last year I bought him a pencil case with pencils and cool erasers.... That he never used. meh. And this year, instead of buying it all in one shot, I'm breaking up the buying. Because, well, I'm cheap. So I've been watching for sales. But, this is a good thing. Instead of wandering the aisles once, I get to do it over and over again!!! (I'm already at 3 times, and we still have stuff on the list and 2 weeks left.)

Stationary-aholics unite!!! join me in our pen clicking paper sniffing ways!!!!!  (Not that I do that.....) Embrace your love for all things back to school. Ride carts singing "It's the most wonderful time of the year" Rejoice with me!!!!! If you're looking for me, I'll be at Staples. Maybe doing this...
