Yummy Yummy

Tonight we had a potluck at work. mmm mmm mmm so much yummy food in one meal. I made a salad that Dave's mom has made before. It's called Broccoli Slaw Salad, but I've been calling it noodle salad. I got a lot of requests at work for the recipe so here it is

1pkg broccoli slaw
2 pkg of Mr Noodles (chicken flavor)
1/2 cup sunflower seeds
1/2 cup sliced almonds
2 green onions sliced fine
1/4 cup sugar
1/3 cup vinegar
1/2 cup vegetable oil

cook mr noodles - boil water or microwave to cook, set chicken seasoning aside for use later. Do not overcook noodles. Let cool enough to handle. Break Noodles into small pieces and put into a bowl. Add Broccoli slaw, green onion, sunflower seeds and almonds.

In a tempered glass (glass measuring cup) add sugar, vinegar, oil and chicken seasoning. Mix then heat in Microwave until sugar is completely dissolved. (1-2 minutes should be good) Let cool then add to salad.

Toss salad again before serving.

Enjoy every minute of the salad. lol. It's very quick to make.

Austin has been so adorable lately. If you ask him what noise a monkey makes he will say eee eee. He also plays the I hear ewe game on my ipod touch and when he touches the train he says hooo hooo. and tries to imitate the motorcycle sounds. It's so cute!

I finished reading Waiter Rant, it's by Steve Dublanica. It was a really good book, it's from this blog http://waiterrant.net/ all about stories from him and his time being a waiter. I need to start reading some more... got to get moving on it!!!

an Update...

Yes it's been a while. I have been keeping very busy. I promise to share some adorable pictures of our little man.

Austin is getting bigger and bigger. I can't believe that somedays he's so big. it's crazy! He is babbling a lot more but also learning how to say words. I just have to keep reminding myself to enunciate words and encourage him to say everything now. He says mama, dada, uh oh, and just started saying - more, and grandma. I asked him to say please the other day and he gave me a kiss. I think that is a good alternative to please for now. lol. I keep asking though, can you say ______? Today I tried to get "fish" out of him however he only made the F sound of it.

Austin hates wearing socks. he keeps pulling them off all the time. However he doesn't just leave them lying around, he's been wearing them on his hands instead. It's really cute to see him trying to do things with socks on his hands.

Dave is home, back to work and we are settling into our ways again. I will admit, I do miss spreading out in bed some nights. lol. I'm trying to expand my cooking skills, we will see how that goes. lol.

Here are some pics of Austin. First up, some Easter pictures.

Austin getting ready to go out to GG's for dinner. lol.

His super awesome pants.

Not wanting to pose with Logan to see their matching cute Easter outfits. (this freak out was because Logan was touching him and also had some kicking and pushing of Logan. Poor Logan. lol)

Cutie Pie!

Egg hunt!!

Chilling with mommy's sunglasses.

Trying to put on his rubber boots.

Yay check out my good job!

And, some videos for you.

101 in 1,001 update:

There is a lot to update here...

First, I finally set up my etsy shop. I don't have anything in it yet, but it's set up. the address is http://kristinscraftythings.etsy.com/ I have also set up a blog with pictures of my current craft things, it's http://www.creations-by-kristin.blogspot.com/ Feel free to check out the blog and leave some feedback!!

I've read 3 more books. I read Dave Ramsey's Total Money makeover. We are working on doing a money makeover in our house and hopefully this will help us out.

I also read Water for elephants by Sara Gruen. It was a great read and I loved the story.

Last book is Still Alice by Lisa Genova. It was a good book, however incredibly sad. Glad I was done it but like I said, I did enjoy it.

I also just started the Hour I first Believed by Wally Lamb. So far it's really good.

*We went to the Zoo a few weeks ago with My cousin Sarah and her kiddies. We had a blast that day. Only one more zoo trip next year to reach my once per year goal.

*Last week My mom, my grandma, helen and I went into Toronto to see Jersey boys. I loved it, so much fun!

*I bought myself flowers last week, just cuz. AND they are still alive. woo hoo!

*rearranged our bedroom.

Again.

Ugh. Austin has a fever... AGAIN. I guess I should be thankful, we made it 2 whole weeks without him getting sick. He started Daycare the middle of December and has been sick every week with something else since. Doing this alone has worn me out. Non-stop sickness. blah. Tonight he was unusually cuddly (which considering lately he's been very cuddly) and I noticed he was getting a bit warm. When we were getting ready for bed I took his temp and he was at 101.1 Fantastic.

His skin has also broken out in dry patches again this winter. Poor boy. It's gotten so bad. There was a spot on the back of his head that he had scratched so much that it had started bleeding. I got a refill of his medicated cream and have started using it in full force. Hopefully it clears up within the next few days and gets better.

Onto the good news. I think Austin said book the other day. He walked up to me with his elmo book in his hand and said baaaaaa. I'm going with that means book. lol.

Tomorrow we have a dr's appt for Austin. We can see how much he's grown in the past 3 months. After that we don't have too many plans so far for the week. I really want to go and check out some of the indoor play places in the area now that Austin is old enough to appreciate them. Thursday we are headed to a movie with Devon and Pierce. That's about all we have planned for this week.

*101 in 1,000 update * I finished reading Lust Lizard of Melancholy lane and finished my *secret* goal.

Our week.

As I'm blogging tonight I'm watching Monsters vs Aliens. I love the super tall chick's hair... As you can tell I haven't really been paying much attention. I would love to have my hair like hers but I'm 99.9% sure I would never be able to pull it off.

Anyways... Yesterday Austin went to daycare. I went and did a walk on the treadmill, enjoyed a nice long shower without Austin trying to climb in the bathtub, un-roll an entire thing of Toilet paper or try to play in the toilet..... Did some banking... All together a productive day.

After I picked Austin up we went for dinner at my mom's. Where he ate like a pig. I have no idea where he picked it up. I joke about, how has he figured out how to eat like his dad when he doesn't see his dad? lol. He just keeps stuffing food in his mouth, 2 handfuls at a time.

I will not be suprised if Austin starts to talk a mile a minute. He babbles non stop. I can tell that he is starting to form the words in his mind because his tone changes and sometimes it seems like he is saying a word. I just need to figure out what that word is.

Today I picked up my mom and Austin (he slept over there last night, I was there till almost 11pm updating music and her iPod) and then dropped mom off at her appointment. From there we went to visit Grandma. We had a fun Visit. Got to see all the toys she has kept over the years. I think she has close to 100 matchbox cars... some from 1970's. He loved playing with them. Then we went shopping at the Carters store. Austin needs some short sleeved onsies so he doesn't get so overheated when he wears his outfits that are longsleeved/sweatshirts. They had some great sales on so I bought him another pair of Coveralls, because really, every adorably cute little boy needs more then one pair of Coveralls.

Austin fell asleep on the way home from Carters and he napped for a bit till we had to go bakc and pick up mom. We then stopped for lunch then headed back home. I applied for a few more jobs (sigh.. I've lost count...) then started to get tired. I put on Monsters vs Aliens and layed in the chair. Austin walked around and played for about 15 minutes or so then same over and curled up in my lap. I'm not sure if he slept or watched the movie, but I napped for probably an hour. It was nice to cuddle with the little man.

We then went for dinner at Dave's parents. After dinner I assembled Austin's Valentines for Daycare tomorrow. Came home, put austin into bed and here we are.

I just charged my camera battery so I should have some new pictures on here soon. I don't think I ever got the pics from Austin's birthday up, so I should get them up here too. I can't wait to get some super awesome pictures of the little man.

2nd part of my update.

Alright, so an update on us now.

I'll start with the best. Austin. He's getting smarter and cuter by the day. He now has 5 teeth out, one pre-molar just poked through and another pre-molar getting ready to come through.

He's been in Daycare since December. Last week was the first week we weren't sick! woo hoo! Other than the sickness he has been doing really well. I'm glad he's able to get out and socialize with other kids.

He now seems to be less clumsy. I know he will never *not* be clumsy... after all, he is my son, but he is getting better.

He still isn't talking much. He says Uh oh, mama, occasionally dada. When he's playing with cars he will make a 'room 'room noise. I think he's trying to say elmo. he understands a lot though. When I ask him to put something somewhere or go get his toys he understood. I asked him a few weeks ago if he wanted to put his coat on to go to daycare and play with the kids. He shook his head yes then held out his arms to put his coat on. He loves playing with forks while eating, still hasn't mastered the art of scooping things onto his fork yet though.

Finally, he gets into everything. EVERYTHING. I find myself uttering the most ridiculous statements some days. So far the best has been "Austin, get your balls out of the toilet." Yes that's right, he took the balls from his helecopter and put them in the toilet. He's started to climb. I finally got him to stop playing with the lamps in the living room. Not anymore. He climbs up on our ottoman, then crawls onto the table and plays with the lamps. I have to figure out how to get him to stop again. Some days though I find it so hard to tell him no because he gives me the cutest smile. I still do though, no spoiling here! lol. It's so hard to believe that he will be 15 months old next week. Crazy.

Next, Dave. He's still in Alberta. It has been really hard, but we're managing. We're doing what we need to at this point. We're hoping for him to come home in March, however we will see what happens in March.

That brings me back to my 'chat board'. The group of girls I have bonded with have helped me immensely. Like I said, they have been my saviour. These past almost 7 months have been really hard. I've shut myself off from most of my friends. I realize this and I guess this post is to get myself to open up, let everyone back in. I want to start with I'm sorry. I've dodged a lot of calls and avoided keeping up with friends. Some friends I just can't bear to be around. They remind me too much of the happy times when I had my husband here with me. I know I should embrace that but I haven't been able to. That's why I've not called them, I haven't gone out of my way to make conversation. It just sucks and was too hard to pretend to be happy. I didn't want to go out and be fake all night, but I also didn't want to bring them down and make them worry. To those friends who have wondered where I've been the past few months, I'm sorry. I've been a crappy friend. I've decided though that I need to change that and try to get out of my funk a bit more.

I have made some new friends that I have been hanging out with quite a bit. It's great because I can be happy without any previous memories, but most nights the sadness is still there. I know it's still going to be there until my husband is home with me, but I'm actually trying to make a conscious effort now. When I look back at the past 6 1/2 months I feel like I've been surviving, not living. I don't want to do that anymore. So here I am. I am opening up about everything and getting it out for everyone to read. Makes me a bit more accountable for being absent from my life. Everything has been affected and I'm changing it. I'm taking more notice and care of everything around me.

Just please, don't mention Valentine's day to me. I'm still a little bitter/sad/annoyed at the 'holiday' since Dave and I won't be able to be together.

On to some happier news. I finished my accounting course last semester with a grade of 96. I was so shocked and happy about that! I'm taking accounting 2 this semester. I'm hoping to get a grade just as good. Too bad I didn't figure out that I was good at this math stuff when I was in school and did something about it then.

Well, I'm off to bed. Austin has taken to waking up for a few hours in the middle of the night the past week so I should get some sleep before he gets me up again!
