Pre-Halloween festivities

Our first Halloween event was trick or treating at galaxyland. Austin did it last year and loved it. So off we went

These two would not stop all afternoon, so we ended up with lots of blurry shots. Sigh. At first Mackenzie didn't really understand. We would stop at the treat tables and she didn't get it. Then I gave her the sheet to hand over. Well she loved that. She would march up to the table and put her paper down. She didn't really get that she was supposed to collect a treat until the last of 8 tables.

And we even found some crayons that worked there!

So, our costumes. Originally Austin was going to be sulley, Mackenzie was going to be boo. I was going to get Dave to be mike and me Celia, but Dave had to work. And they don't make boo costumes anymore. So I bought fabric to make a boo costume.

Then, I went on the hunt for a sulley costume. I checked all 4 of the pop up Halloween stores in Edmonton, and had them call their other locations in the city.  They carried 2t, 3t, and then size 4-6. Or I could go with a men's large/xl. If I wanted to go girl sulley I could  get sizes between toddler and adult. I scoured eBay, amazon, costume express, everywhere. No one had a sulley costume between size 6 and men's large. We live in Alberta, it's cold. We need costumes to go over snow suits. We could get away with a 6 inside but not over a coat.

So we went to the Halloween store one night and we walked through the store. Austin's favorite colour is green. Everything has to be green. So when he saw he could be a green crayon, he was excited! (This is after I did say no to him being chucky) I thought I would check on toddler sizes. Sure enough they had one Mackenzie's size. However only in blue. We decided to get them. Mackenzie wouldn't take it off in the store and walked around wearing it.

I even picked up a costume for me in a moment of Halloween spirit.  After dropping a ridiculous amount for 3 costumes we were all set for Halloween.

Oh what a summer!

This has been written for a while and I just forgot to post it. Without further ado - a review of our summer.

It's been quite the summer! We had such a blast this summer

First,
My cousin Ashley came for the summer

And a downside
I got hand foot mouth disease. That aside.....

The kids had a blast playing at some splash pads

And don't forget the slip and slide in the back yard!

Most exciting - we bought a trailer! Every time Dave was home from work we would go camping. It was quite the fun experience

Also, we went camping a few times near a beach so of course we had to hit it up!!!

We also took Ashley to jasper to see the mountains. It was such a fun weekend!

Austin had a blast throwing rocks in the water with his friend Mila

And we got to witness this: big horned sheep eating a truck. The guy jumped out to take a picture of all the sheep, left his door open, and this sheep thought he would check it out and have a snack. I said its a good thing we shut our doors, or we would never get them out of the van with the amount of goldfish crackers in the backseat.

Lets not forget our trip to calgary. I went down to do the color me rad 5k. We brought the whole family with us. I had a blast
This was my heck yeah I finished the race face. It was a little touch and go for a bit.
And probably my most favourite picture ever.

While we were in calgary we went and checked out the zoo. They had pictures of all the flooding they sustained. I had no idea that half the zoo was on an island! Obviously it being only a month after the flooding the part of the zoo on the island was still closed. They were saying it will take up to 5 years and close to 5 million dollars to recover from the flood. So crazy.

Austin loved the penguins! He would have sat there all day watching them.

Also, this picture is of their penguin who had an infection in his foot and it was being rubbed raw. They ordered him special penguin booties to prevent that, but they didn't fit. So, they improvised using beer cozies. You can see one foot cozied in the picture. How cute is that.

Overall the kids had a blast this summer I'm sure, and I even had a pretty good time too.

Happy first day of fall!

This morning Austin had to go to our local farmers markets for an opportunity to harvest the corn. (Through his beavers group) he had fun and got to bring some corn home too.

Afterwards he got an award!

Good job my jr farmer!!! Obviously he wasn't as excited, since we came home without the award when he set it down somewhere and it got left behind. Oops.

Mackenzie was super excited to get a balloon

And obviously loved toddling around while wearing it

Oh, and they got to pet a cow.

Mackenzie was soooo gentle and nice with the cow. No hitting (thank goodness!!!)

I'm pretty sure Austin loved petting the cows too.

What our super cute pictures don't show is how our day ended. With Austin whining he didn't want popcorn, then both of them misbehaving, so I said we were leaving. That was followed by me football carrying a crying Mackenzie out, while Austin followed along crying soooo loud that he wanted popcorn and didn't want to go home. And of course we had to walk through the entire farmers market with them doing this.
